Using the physical environment to represent or augment the therapeutic relationship, when intimacy feels too threatening. Handling holiday breaks and other predictable challenges.
Session 3: The value of LMA as a tool. Learning when, and how to introduce body movement and when,
and how movement can be understood through words. Learning when to stay with the undigested fragments and when to help with the making of links. Being able to acknowledge getting it wrong and avoiding retaliation.

Woman, Body, Earth & Spirit
LA LOBA – Wolf Woman, Bone Woman
February 24-26: Fri 6pm – Sun 5pm
North Norfolk, with Linda Hartley
One of a series of workshops for women, exploring the nature of the ‘deep feminine’ through authentic movement, creative bodywork, and myths and stories which speak to women’s healing journey.
La Loba invites us to enter into the process of loss, psychological death and the renewal of spirit. Through inner reflection, embodiment, movement and song, we will explore themes such as: the bone-seed – the indestructible core of spirit and its embodiment within us; our bones as store of ancient wisdom and ancestral memory; gathering the lost parts of the self; the journey of death, transformation and rebirth.
Moving into Being
Spring & Summer Workshops with Linda Hartley
An Introduction to Body-Mind Centering® and
Authentic Movement
May 19 & June 30, 2012
Sat 10-30am – 5-30pm. Islington, North London
Linda Hartley, experienced teacher of Body-Mind Centering® and Authentic Movement, and author of Wisdom of the Body Moving and Somatic Psychology, will lead these two one day workshops in North London. Each day will include an embodied exploration of aspects of the Body-Mind Centering® approach to Infant Movement Development; this process can support, clarify and strengthen the foundations of our movement.
The practice and discipline of Authentic Movement will deepen these explorations; on day two, the art of witnessing will also be introduced.
No previous experience is required. Both days are open to all, and can be taken alone or together. They can also serve as an introduction to the 3-year ISMETA approved training programme, which the Institute for Integrative Bodywork & Movement Therapy will be offering from September 2012.
The Embodiment of Spirit
An Embryological Journey
June 22-24, 2012
Fri 10-30am – Sun 5-30pm. Ashdon, near Cambridge
This workshop will explore the process of development, from conception through the first few weeks of embryological life, drawing upon principles of Body-Mind Centering®, Somatic Psychology and Authentic Movement. Through movement and body meditations we will explore the embodiment of cells, membranes, tissues and fluids, engaging with the unfolding of form through which the embryonic sense of self begins to emerge. Asking what embodiment means to us as human beings, we will consider how the human embryo embodies spirit.
This workshop is open to practitioners and trainees in the somatic, psychological and arts therapies, education and related professions. It can serve as an introduction to the 3-year IBMT training programme, for those with previous relevant experience.

Body Mapping allows you to explore and creatively communicate the stories that you live in your body. It involves painting a life-size representation of your body onto canvas and using images, symbols and words to map out places in you that are full of life, places that pain, and places that hold hope and potential for the future. In the process of creating the body map you will discover new links between these places in you and gain a deeper understanding of your own power to create health within you and through your way of living in this world.
The Intensive Weekend Workshop takes place in a safe and confidential small group setting and interweaves painting, body work, guided visualisation, and personal story telling. The focus will be on awakening new life within as we move into spring.
The workshop will be facilitated by:
Annette Schwalbe (SRDMP) brings to this many years of experience facilitating Body Mapping workshops and trainings in the UK, Kenya, Germany, Austria and the USA. She also works as a Body & Movement Psychotherapist and Supervisor in private practice in Coleford and Bristol. Her approach rests on the creative process of sensing, moving and speaking. The Art of Being in Motion
with Helen Poynor & Shelagh O'Neill
November 17th - 18th
An opportunity to replenish body, mind and spirit on the threshold between autumn and winter, in conversation with ancient rocks and the late autumnal trees.
A unique collaboration interweaving non-stylised movement and the Feldenkrais Method®. The subtle kinaesthetic awareness developed through Feldenkrais enriches creative exploration, opening the path to fuller and freer expression and a deeper encounter with the environment.
The Feldenkrais Method generates flexibility of body and mind, in a focused, relaxed and often surprising way. The sequences of movements work like a physical riddle - as each new movement is repeated and explored, new clarity is found and unaccustomed movement relationships emerge. Your habits and assumptions are challenged and you find new solutions. Attention, curiosity and awareness combine to engage your capacity for on-going change.
Shelagh O'Neill is an experienced Feldenkrais practitioner, practising in Bristol and Cornwall. She and Helen have been working in collaboration for 8 years, www.nicefeldenkrais.co.uk, shelagh.oneill@feldenkrais.co.uk tel: 07973 324035.
Price: £95 (£85 concession) Location: Branscombe, East Devon.

RRR; The Primitive Reflexes, Righting Reactions and Equilibrium Responses
Date: March 31–April 6 2012 6 days, day off April 3rd,
Cost :£450
The RRR are the fundamental elements, the alphabet, of our movement.
Underneath all successful, effortless movement are integrated reflexes, righting reactions and equilibrium responses. The reflexes are the most primitive patterns that occur in response to specific stimuli, and they establish basic survival patterns of function.
The righting reactions are important in establishing a vertical or upright posture against gravity and a continuous head-torso axis. The equilibrium responses are patterns which maintain balance of the whole body in the dynamic relationship between the shifting of one's centre of gravity through space and one's base of support. Please see our website for course content. Venue: London Buddhist Arts Centre
Ontogenetic development;
Dates: April 9-13, 2012 5 days
Cost £375
The period from intrauterine life through approximately 12 months of age is an extraordinarily formative time for humans. Our basic movement patterns emerge in utero, are present at birth, and develop through the first year of life. It is during this time that we build the groundwork for our movement and perceptual skills and pass through the milestones by which we mark our development. This course will
include:
Developmental milestones including: fetal movement, nursing, head control, eye-hand coordination, rolling, belly crawling etc. to walking. The sequence of development that allows the infant to progress through each and all skill levels during its development process.
Please find more information on the web site. Venue: London Buddhist Arts Centre.
